-->South African number two gold producer Gold Fields would spend $31 million to buy the 49 percent share of the Arctic Platinum Project in Finland that it does not already own.

Gold Fields said it would pay $23 million in cash and $8 million in shares for the stake in the project. The group said in a statement Friday the acquisition
gave it an attractive option on a sizeable platinum project.
