Reuters has just carried a story saying the French Finance Minister has a
plan to sell 500-600t gold in the next five years. Although there has been
some recent debate/speculation, this is the first time that a quantity has
been specified, although speculation had been that the French, and possibly
Italians, would follow the German benchmark of 600t.

This still leaves the combined announced sales significantly below the
2,500t limit under the renewed Central Bank Gold Agreement. On my
calculations the following sales will take place under CBGA 2

Switzerland 130t (to complete announced sale of 1,300t)
Netherlands 30t (to complete announced sale of 300t)
Germany 600t?
France 600t?

total 1,360t

As such there is still significant room for the Italians and/or anybody
else to begin selling and still keep within the 2,500t limit
