"Some may have been thinking that, ahead of G20, we had just about gone as low as we were going on the dollar. However, overnight, an article in the NKS has said (though without attribution) that next year Russia will end the RUB peg to the dollar and go to a basket. Not a new idea, but the newspaper goes on to say that the weighting will be 'more than two-thirds in EUR'. This is certainly a bigger proportion than had previously been presumed, and can only increase buying elsewhere of the single currency. The market was already growing to the idea that Russia might have to buy EUR if they go further with their proposals to repay Paris Club debt early, but if there is any sort of confirmation, then our end of the month target of 1.3300 might begin to look modest."
