Fed cuts discount rate to 5.50 pct from 5.75
WASHINGTON (AFX) - The Federal Reserve Board announced that it has cut its
discount rate to 5.5 pct from 5.75 pct.
The action was expected.
Yesterday, the Federal Open Market Committee lowered its target for the
federal funds rate to 6.0 pct from 6.5 pct and cut the discount rate by 25 basis
points to 5.75 pct from 6.0.
At that time, the Fed said"it stands ready to approve a further reduction
of 25 basis points in the discount rate...on the requests of Federal Reserve
Banks."
Fed watchers said the Fed only cut the discount rate by a quarter percentage
point yesterday because none of the 12 district banks had requested a 50 basis
point cut. The Fed invited the banks to request a further reduction in the
discount rate and all 12 complied.
The rate change is effective immediately except in the St Louis district,
where it takes effect tomorrow.
The discount rate is the largely symbolic rate on loans the Fed makes to
banks.

Au Backe, jetzt scheint aber wirklich die Kacke am Dampfen zu sein.
Sollte es etwa doch schon soweit sein?
Ich kann es noch garnicht richtig glauben.
Aber zwei Zinssenkungen so kurz hintereinander sind schon sehr merkwürdig.

Die Fed senkte die Zinsen nur aufgrund der Aufforderungen der"regional Fed banks" (siehe http://www.cnnfn.com). The Fed only moves the rate at the request of the regional Fed banks. Dennoch ist es sicherlich merkwürdig.
Bin mal gespannt, was die Arbeitsmarktdaten morgen sagen.
