Hello, my name is Michael and I work for a bank here in Germany. I first heard about the massive devaluation of the Iraqi currency through an Iraqi currency speculation bulletin board on a well known American investment website.

HOW DID THIS SPECULATION PHENOMENON ARISE?
Iraq's old currency bearing Saddam's face was officially withdrawn from the world markets during the second gulf war. After Saddam had been toppled, the USA funded a new set of Iraqi currency with neutral non Saddam designs. These were actually printed in the UK by a company called Thomas De La Rue - also famous for producing our own Isle of Man banknotes. Consequently they have as many security features as our own notes - security strip, watermarks, etc to counteract forgery and counterfeiting. This has been the only official legal currency of Iraq since October 2003 but between 2002 and the time the new currency was delivered to the Iraqi people the currency had again been devalued.
Today the official exchange rate available in Iraq is approximately 1 Iraqi dinar = $0.0007
Today myself and the thousands of other Iraqi dinar speculators in America and the rest of the world are eagerly awaiting the reintroduction of the
Iraqi dinar onto the world markets.

the first gulf war or even Croatian currency after the war in the former Yugoslavia in the early 1990s then you would have made considerable amounts of money.
Unfortunately ebay did not exist then.
But I checked the rates on a currency exchange website and I was astonished. If you had bought about $ 35 worth of Afghanistan currency during the war on terror in the summer of 2002 the exchange rate was about 7400 = $ 1.
By February 2003 the exchange rate had
dropped to around 68 = $ 1.
In other words your $ 35 was now worth over
100 times more!!!
You would now have about
$ 3,700.
Consequently I feel happy with my 30 million dinar purchase and if it doesn't work out well then, hey it's been fun and you only live once that you remember. I would truly hate to turn on my TV set in a couple of years time to find that Iraq has become reasonably peaceful again, there have been billions spent on foreign investment and consequently millions of barrels of oil are being pumped again so that your typical Iraqi in Baghdad is driving around in a BMW and eating out at western restaurants as they used to in the 1980s and the good old dinar has recovered to a rate of $1 = 1 Iraqi dinar.
