Southern Company Chooses Itron for Development of Advanced Meter Data Collection System
SPOKANE, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 3, 2001--Itron, Inc. (Nasdaq:ITRI - news), announced today that Southern Company, a diversified investor-owned electric utility based in Atlanta, GA, has signed an agreement with Itron's Energy Information Systems (EIS) business unit out of Raleigh, NC to implement Southern Company's next generation meter data collection and management system.
Southern Company's vision and strategy called for a new generation of robust, scalable, efficient and open architecture systems built around industry standards. Southern was looking for an advanced data management platform that would support the development of value-added services by software developers contracted by the company. The system is expected to support a potential of up to 50,000 commercial and industrial meters in the next 5 years, with the ability to extend data management capabilities to other Southern Company customer metering and end-point devices.
Southern Company currently uses Itron's MV-90 system to collect metering data from approximately 12,000 meter points. In evaluating proposals from several software developers, Southern chose Itron EIS based on the strength of its proposed solution of an open and robust data management system, designed to meet the future needs of the company. Itron EIS has been in development of an advanced MV-90 application server built to support data exchange and third-party application development using standard API services. The new system will enable Southern to implement its concept in an evolutionary manner while not disrupting the current data collection environment.
Jedenfalls sind die kostentechnisch ziemlich gut drauf!
