Precious metals futures inch higher

NEW YORK (CBS.MW) - Most precious metals futures closed higher Wednesday, as Russia`s suspension of exports over the weekend sparked concern over near-term supplies.
The Russian Ministry of Finance announced Tuesday the suspension of all precious metals exports from Aug. 25. The suspension results from a decree signed in June by Vladimir Putin that establishes new rules for precious metals exports but doesn`t provide adequate system controls, according to Ross Norman, director of TheBullionDesk.com in London.
"Ironically, while the short-term impact of the announcement is some price firmness, the longer term impact can only have been to further weaken demand side fundamentals," said Norman, noting that industries will push ahead vigorously to substitute the metals in key applications such as autocatalysts and electronics.
Following the news, September palladium tacked on 15 cents to close at $472.65 an ounce a day after touching a 3-week intraday high at $479. October platinum rose to an intraday high at $466.50 before slipping to $459.60, down $1.30.
Metals stocks mostly higher
In other precious metals action, most metals issues built on the gains seen late Tuesday.
The CBOE Gold Index (GOX: news, chart, profile) closed up 0.7 percent to 41.32. The Amex Gold Bugs Index (HUI: news, chart, profile), a gauge of mostly unhedged stocks, stood at 66.76, up 0.2 percent.
However, the Philadelphia Gold and Silver Index (XAU: news, chart, profile) fell by 0.4 percent to stand at 56.63.
Among individual index components, shares of Agnico-Eagle Mines (AEM: news, chart, profile) climbed by 20 cents to stand at $9.65 and Ashanti Goldfields (ASL: news, chart, profile) tacked on 5 cents to $3.80, but Placer Dome Gold (PDG: news, chart, profile) shed 6 cents to close at $10.89.
Gold futures rise
On the Commodities Exchange division of the New York Mercantile Exchange, gold for December delivery rose to an intraday high at $276.40 an ounce. It closed at $275.80 an ounce, up $1.40. September silver added 0.2 cent to $4.185 an ounce.
As of late Tuesday, Comex gold warehouse stocks were unchanged at 793,647 ounces and silver supplies were down 500,155 to 102.7 million ounces.
In other metals action, September copper climbed by 0.45 cent to 69.55 cents an ounce. The London Metals Exchange pegged copper supplies at 662,675 metric tons as of early Wednesday, down 4,100 from a day earlier. Comex stocks, by late Tuesday were up 921 to 184,905 short tons.

Mal schauen was die Preise jetzt so fundamental anstellen.
Gruss

Russland suspendiert ALLE Edelmetallexporte / Kommentar dazu |
http://www.thebulliondesk.com/Reports/prospector.htm
OK. Time for more machinations and the already extraordinarily tiresome and predictable disinformation and manipulation from Russia regarding the precious metals. It seems that all precious metals have been prevented from export due to the fact that starting Saturday; the State Hallmark Chamber has now been brought in to control exports. But, such organization barely exists and nothing has been prepared in regards to the rules and regulations of such. But based upon such news, palladium was up about $30 on the day while platinum was slightly higher as well. Look, this is totally ludicrous and there cant be any individual with an IQ bigger than his/her shoe size that could possibly believe that such is the day to day operations of the government and that it is not totally purposeful and orchestrated. God, I get so tired of this. This is one of the reasons that I no longer recommend much participation by the average investor in these markets. But still, I look to sell rallies. Sooner or later, people will catch on.
Lastly, although the National Union of Mineworkers in Russia got much, if not all, of what they asked for in their recent negotiations with the gold producers, they now ask that 300,000 of its constituents participate in a strike for the benefit of the non-privatization of governmental assets. They complain that such privatization might have negative implications for thousands of workers due to loss of jobs due to the need of greater efficiency of the new organizations. Gee, do you think this was in their newly signed labor agreements? The union is running amok and will not be stopped easily. Long term readers of my commentary know my opinion of the future of this industry in South Africa.

Hoffen wirs!

Aha,"keine adequaten Exportkontrollen".
