Dollar Soars Against the Yen

The dolar has risen sharply against the yen as the market awaits the
outcome of the vote of confidence in Japan's prime minister Mori. The dollar
has moved above the JPY110 level for the first time in around 6 months. The
political uncertainty in Japan is real, while the talking heads here worry about
tweedle dee and tweedle dum. CNN-USA today polls continue to reflect a
rather calm attitude on the part of U.S. citizens regarding the outcome of
U.S. election. Key is in Japan, a great deal more is at stake, especially given
their fragile economy.
The dollar is also gaining a bit on the euro, suggesting that the losses in the
U.S. equity market are not prompting flight from the U.S.
We are doing this primarily to ourselves...
