JOHANNESBURG, July 27 (Reuters) - South Africa's powerful National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) said on Friday it would go on strike at gold mines Goldfields, Harmony and Durban Roodepoort Deep after wage talks deadlocked.
"We will be serving them with a notice to strike. We will go on strike on Wednesday," NUM spokesman Moferefere Lekorotsoane told Reuters.
He said marathon talks on Friday that resulted in a wage deal between the union and the world's largest gold producer, Anglogold, had failed to result in agreement with South Africa's other three big mines.
The Chamber of Mines, which represents employers, said it had offered 8 percent to higher-paid employees and 9 percent to lower-paid employees. Lekorotsoane said disagreements remained over the phasing in of the increases, as well as leave benefits.
