Zwei Quellen zu J.P. Morgan und die 1907er-Krise (mL)
dottore: Er hat J. P. Morgan die Verursachung der Krise 1907 ("Goldabzüge") unterstellt.
Das GEGENTEIL war der Fall gewesen. J.P.

<...
But it was in the 1907 panic on Wall Street that Morgan's ability to inspire trust that enabled him to arrange a rescue package that saved the American banking system and the New York Stock Exchange.
A series of runs on banks had undermined confidence in the market because the banks had been heavily involved in the market as underwriters and investors. In addition, many trust banks had taken stock as collateral for loans to speculators. He brought bankers together to arrange a $25 million aid package, and orchestrated a $25 million line of credit from the U.S. Treasury to add liquidity to the banking system. A few months later he arranged $20 million in financing that helped keep the New York Stock Exchange open.
"Morgan was 70 years old and he was known as the Napoleon of Wall Street," says Strouse."By this time, he really commanded the trust of financiers on both sides of the Atlantic. So, in a moment of tremendous crisis and panic, he told other men what to do and they did it."
But Morgan's critics charged that he had made huge profits on the rescue operation - some even charged that he had engineered the crisis to scoop up assets at fire-sale prices.
And he was criticized for his profiteering in the Civil War: buying guns from the government, upgrading them and selling them back for huge profit and speculating on gold.
While he may have rationalized the monetary system and make industry more efficient, he ruthlessly forced businesses to cut jobs and wages. He battled labor movements and other worker organizations. A reflection of the Gilded Age he lived in, Morgan had little concern for social problems.
Possibly the greatest financier in history, money was never Morgan's central motive. If he had he would probably have been one of the super rich. But when he died, his net worth was estimated at just $80 million, prompting John D. Rockefeller to reportedly say:"and to think he wasn't even a rich man." Rockefeller was already worth $1 billion.
Morgan's true wealth was his power and his word.
