LG Chem Shares Plunge 15% Limit After Last-Minute Sell Order

Seoul, March 22 (Bloomberg) -- LG Chem Ltd. shares, which surged 88 percent this year, plunged by their 15 percent limit after a last-minute sell order handled by J.P. Morgan Chase & Co.

Korea's biggest plastics maker lost about $300 million of market value as its stock plunged to 34,800 won from 41,300 won in one trade about 10 minutes before the close of trading.

J.P. Morgan's Jardine Fleming Securities Ltd. unit handled a trade of 76,420 shares at the limit-down price, according to stock exchange data and the company.

``The order was executed exactly as ordered. There was no mistake,'' said Peter McKillop, a senior spokesman at J.P. Morgan. ``The client is satisfied with the order.''

LG Chem stock rallied this year on expectations the company will profit from rising prices of polyvinyl chloride, used to make products ranging from credit cards to floor mats. PVC prices in Hong Kong jumped 55 percent this year, according to ICIS-LOR.

The stock last tumbled by its 15 percent daily limit on Sept. 12, the day after the U.S. terrorist attacks.
