"Istanbul, Sept 6 (Reuters) -"Turkey`s gold imports
jumped 96 percent to 151.58 tonnes in the first
eight months of 2,000, compared to 77.37 tonnes in
the same period of 1999, the Istanbul gold exchange
said on Wednesday.

"In its monthly report, the exchange said the
eight-month figure exceeded the 107.34 tonnes imported
in the whole of 1999."

"Could this be Arab oil money at work? This is
EXTRAORDINARY gold demand. The INCREASE alone in
Turkish gold demand alone soaks up most of the gold
from the British auctions."
