Leaders of the Iraqi opposition expect a bonanza for the oil industry if Saddam Hussain is removed from power, reported the Washington Post. Western oil companies have apparently already begun to line-up for the huge opportunities in Iraq which has 112bn barrels of proven reserves and very low production costs. Iraq used to produce 3.5m bpd compared with less than 800,000 bpd today.</ul>

Leider war auf der HP der Washington Post nichts dazu zu finden; aber wir werden wohl demnächst mehr zu lesen bekommen.
Im Juli 1990 hatte der Irak noch 3050 mbpd und Saudi-Arabien 5394 mbpd gefördert. Weltproduktion damals 60.488 mbpd.
