"REDMOND, Wash. (CBS.MW) -- Corel Corp.'s shares rose more than
70 percent Tuesday after the troubled Canadian company said Microsoft
is making a $135 million investment in it.

Corel shares jumped $2.69 to $6.34 in early
trading Tuesday.

Under the newly expanded relationship, Microsoft
has purchased 24 million non-voting convertible
preferred shares at $5.62 each.

This represents a 24.6 percent stake in Corel, but Microsoft made it clear
that it gains no voting rights in the company.

Corel (CORL: news, msgs) will be able to use Microsoft's Web
applications to help deliver applications like CorelDraw, WordPerfect and
Linux platforms, by late 2001, officials said."
