At The Margin...Quite quietly, actually, the NYMEX increased COMEX gold futures margin requirements at the close today. Novel idea raising margin requirements, right? It's a shame no one thought of that about six or so years ago in another asset class that we can think of. For members, member firms and hedgers, contract margin requirements move from $1,000 to $1,500. For the smaller speculators it moves from $1,350 to $2,025. Nothing like a 50% increase in margin requirements to inspire a little short term volatility?
