06/27/2003 U.S. economy set to recover, but jobs scant-report

NEW YORK, June 27 (Reuters) - The U.S. economy is poised for a recovery in the second half of this year, but unfortunately for workers, companies will not ramp up hiring for months to come, a report suggested on Friday.

The booming housing sector carried the week forward and, helped by rising commodities prices, lifted the Economic Cycle Research Institute's economic barometer to its highest level since October 2000.

The index climbed to 124.1 in the week to June 20 from 123.4 in the prior week....

"The index has recovered to pre-recession levels," said Lakshman Achuthan, ECRI managing director."We are firmly on track for a consumer-led recovery."

The index's growth rate, which smooths out weekly fluctuations, edged up to 6.9 percent from 6.1 percent.

In dem Frühindikatorenindex spiegeln sich die Aktien- wie Bondmärkte, die Geldmenge, die Hypothekenanträge und die Erstanträge auf Arbeitslosenunterstützung wieder; bis auf den letzten Punkt allesamt abhängig von der momentanen Liquiditätsflut. Nichtsdestotrotz sprach das ECRI bereits im Herbst 2000 von einer aufkommenden Rezession als andersorts noch vom 'Softlanding' gefaselt wurde; also den Wert nicht unterschätzen
