Dollar Exchange Rate:
"Rapid pumping action may depress the dollar exchange rate in foreign money markets, but cannot materially check imports, promote exports, and thus reduce the U.S. trade deficit. Surely a decline in the dollar, versus other currencies, tends to make imports of foreign goods more expensive and American exports less expensive to foreigners. Yet, such changes in exchange rates are more than offset by the credit expansion and domestic spending spree. The trade deficit is caused by the credit expansion, and can be corrected only by credit stability and spending restraint."
