SA Goldminen droht neue finanzielle Belastung
-->Zwei Anwaltskanzleien planen riesige Schadenersatzklagen gegen SA-Goldminen
wegen der Staublungenkrankheit (entsteht beim Abbau im quarzreichen Gestein, nicht im kalkhältigem Gestein wie im Pölstal)

- South Africa’s mining companies could face another round of bruising itigation as two groups of lawyers prepare to sue them for compensation based on silicosis, a widespread, and potentially deadly disease afflicting the country’s miners. The lawyers that secured a R460 million settlement for asbestosis sufferers in the Gencor case - Richard Meeran and Richard Spoor, are working on separate cases that could see gold producers and their parents facing claims of up to R500 million a year, based on an estimate by Spoor.
The issue this time is silicosis - a lung disease that Spoor, an attorney with Ntuli, Noble and Spoor, says may afflict as many as 300 000 currently employed and retired mineworkers. The disease is caused by dust that is inhaled in mines, and Spoor says liability for local mining groups could run into billions of rands as the companies would have to compensate ex-employees.
