<<Yes, they were taking out stops...but they shouldn't have been able to spike it down like that if the stock is running on more than fumes.>>
50 million dollars of play money can make a big dent quickly here and there are players out there that make a living in the markets that CDE is in. While CDE was dropping I was looking at HL, PAAS, SIL, and SSRI and they didn't move that much. That told me the play on CDE this A.M. was a classic 'shakeout.'
I recall a similar situation 2 yrs. ago with a stock I owned - SAH, while I was new to trading. Pushed down 10% by MM's in early A.M. trading only to quickly recover and then trade up and close on a 52 wk high and run up another 40% over the next 3 months. They ran my stops and I sat on the sidelines for the next 3 months crying over spilled milk.
What I've learned is that these types of shakeouts are 'usually' accumulation signals - they're how BIG MONEY gets in the game at a cheap(er) price. For everyone holding long, this was a minor event, but the MM's were able to take shares away from the weak hands this morning, and that's just how the game is played. JMHO
