Randabwertung?....Wäre gut für Harmony, Goldfields, Durban etc....
-->aus dem WO Goldboard:
Am Donnerstag werden evt. Maßnahmen für eine Randabwertung besprochen. Eine Randabwertung würde die Gewinnposition der südafrikanischen Minen verbessern.
Rand devaluation showdown this week

DENVER - Earlier this month, Mineweb reported that South Africa’s captains of industry were intensively lobbying government to weaken the strong rand which is threatening to derail the economy. Mineweb has now learned that the recent timid reduction in interest rates that left the rand even stronger has prompted a tripartite summit that will take place this Thursday.
It is understood that President Thabo Mbeki and his senior advisors will convene with Reserve Bank Governor Tito Mboweni, business and labour representative to thrash out a way to devalue the rand in an orderly way before permanent structural damage is done. Critically, sources say the business delegation will be represented by a majority of black executives representing a broad spectrum of commercial interests.
…
The rand rebounded in late 2002 after going into freefall in December 2001 when it nearly touched R13.82 to the dollar. It is presently trading in a range between R7.20-30.
…
At the same time, next year’s presidential elections cannot be ignored. The ANC will need to be seen to deliver on its promises and employment is the highest priority.
…
The rand may, therefore, be devalued in the short-term via a combination of several interest rate cuts, “adjustments” to key national statistics, and an explicit weak rand policy statement by the Reserve Bank.
