Schweizer Zentralbank verkauft nochmals 284 Tonnen Gold

-->AFP: Switzerland’s central bank will sell another 284 tonnes of gold by the end of September 2004 under the agreement struck with other European central banks in 1999, the bank announced yesterday.

The announcement prompted a drop in gold prices on the key London Bullion Market. An ounce of gold was valued at $384.10 yesterday morning, against $390.70 an ounce late on Thursday. The Swiss bullion sale is part of the divestment of 1,300 tonnes of gold supplies the Swiss National Bank launched in May 2000. The bank said in a statement that it had a put a total of 886 tonnes of gold on the market so far
