The September 2003 issue of The Elliott Wave Theorist described the wave count in gold; the chart on page 7 shows the current position and its implication for the near and intermediate term. Wave 5 of (C) is underway from $346 on August 1 and may be ending as we go to press. Since prices are thrusting up from the end of a fourth-wave triangle, wave 5 should be a sharp move that is quickly retraced.

A gold top now will also mark the end of wave (C) from the April 2001 low ($255.80) and Primary wave from the July 1999 low ($253.20). From that point, a decline should take gold significantly lower.
