With a brash and furious explosion just around the limb, or the Sun's edge, one of the two active regions that were the source of so much solar activity two weeks ago is announcing its return.
A large coronal mass explosion (CME) blasted out on 13 November 2003, probably from the old active region 484, which is now about to rotate back into view. When last here, this area and its pal produced a significant number of flares and CMEs, including the largest solar flare ever recorded. And many blasts have been noted as originating on the backside of the Sun while AR 484 and 486 were rotating there. Views of the Sun in extreme ultraviolet light show that a large active region is rotating into view right at the Sun's left edge. The second active region should follow its pal in a few more days. Space weather could get very interesting once again.
