I often traded Coeur D'Alene back in 1979 -1980. Then the big silver mining operations were Engelhardt, Sunshine Mining, Hecla, as well as Coeur. There were many other I cannot even recall any longer.
But the reason they all soared out of sight was because the Hunt Brothers had cornered the silver market and the price of silver was manipulated to the high $40 range.
Even though silver is an industrial metal as well as a currency metal, it will still take the upward price of gold to clear the way for silver to move up. I am confident both metals will have many years of upward progress.
But, a little note from the 1987 stock market crash. After black Monday Oct 22nd, 1987, the precious metal stocks were the only stocks up that day. I believe there were less than 40 stocks up that day and about 2,800 stocks down.
The next 2 days brought about a major selloff of all the gold and silver stocks, When margin call go out the stocks that have some value get sold off because those stocks are the only things left to generate the dollars necessary to answer margin calls. So if history is any guage, then during any 1,2, or 3 day massive stock market selloff, it would be prudent cash out (temporarily) a minimum of 1/3 of pm stock holding to build up a cash reserve. IMHO.
Es wäre schön, wenn jemand noch einen Dollar-Chart aus den letzten beiden Oktoberwochen 1987 hätte.
Gruesse
