Wie geht's eigentlich dem Ã-l-Markt?
-->VIENNA (AFP) - Saudi Arabian Oil Minister Ali al-Nuaimi said an OPEC (news - web sites) cut in production of one million barrels due to take effect was already being implemented.
"It's been implemented already," Nuaimi said Monday upon arriving in Vienna for a meeting Wednesday of the 11-nation Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries.
He said that for a cut to be"effective April 1" it had to involve orders previously made."The nominations (orders) came in March," Nuaimi said.
Despite high oil prices, he said: "There's plenty of oil out there."
Oil traders have said, however, that while Saudi Arabia is already cutting down on production deliveries, other OPEC members have been slow to follow suit.
OPEC had decided at a meeting in Algiers February 10 to bring its production quotas for the 10 nations in the quota system -- Iraq (news - web sites) does not take part -- down to 23.5 million bpb from 24.5 million bpd in order to avoid price drops when demand declines in the northern hemisphere due to spring weather.
But oil prices fell on Monday amid hints from OPEC that the cartel could postpone its planned output cut.
The price of benchmark Brent North Sea crude oil for May delivery shed 48 cents per barrel to 31.51 dollars in late trading here.
New York's reference light sweet crude May contract fell 35 cents to 35.38 dollars in early deals. (...)
