-->Hi,

OPEC (News - Websites) has quietly introduced a new formula for assessing its reference crude price that takes into account exchange rate moves and for now works out lower than the official basket price, officials from the oil cartel said on Tuesday.
.....
The group introduced the trial basket around four months ago, early in a price rally that has kept OPEC's official daily price above the $22-28 band since December. The daily basket was last valued at $32.89 and averaged $32.05 during March.
By contrast OPEC said in its recent monthly oil market that"in real terms (base July 1990), after accounting for inflation and currency fluctuations, the basket price improved by 9.65 percent to $23.52 a barrel from $21.25 a barrel."
OPEC has said that producers need higher prices for their dollar-denominated crude exports to protect their purchasing power from a slide in value of the dollar over the past year
.....
OPEC uses a modified Geneva I + US$ basket' for its exchange rate calculations including the euro, the Japanese yen, the US dollar, the pound sterling and the Swiss franc, weighted according to the merchandise imports of OPEC Member Countries from the countries in the basket.
