Challenger job-cut report: 73,368 layoffs

-->The Challenger job-cut report revealed that 73,368 layoffs were reported in May, a 1.6 percent rise from April and a 6.9 percent hike from a year ago. In May, job cut announcements were largest at retail establishments followed by the telecommunications industry. In April, the largest layoff announcements were in the industrial goods sector. In the first five months of this year, job cut announcements are down 28.5 percent from the same period last year.
