Die hard with a vengeance crude bull part III. The energy bull rose from the ashes of the bear's making one day after the pretending that Iraq oil didn't matter ended. There were conflicting reports on when Iraq oil exports would resume and traders are wondering if OPEC has what it takes to replace Iraq's production. Word of a Norway oil workers strike re-ignited the bulls and left the bears in the dust. Psychology has shifted.
When will Iraq be back to exporting crude oil? Bloomberg News reports one US advisor said they doubt it'll happen today. How long they're off line is key to the market because many worry there's not enough world wide excess to make up for their absence. Strong economic data suggests oil demand is going to do nothing but head higher. OPEC says they have excess capacity but they called on non-OPEC producers to step up their capacity. It makes some nervous. Adding to the nervousness is a potential oil workers strike in Norway.
What about gas? Why has it moderated? A big part of the reason is the incredibly hard work by US refiners. They're running at 96% of capacity! So far we've been lucky that there has been few glitches but word is out that our luck may be running out with word of refinery trouble reported late last night. Stay tuned!
Are winter blues setting in already? We had a natural gas injection yesterday of 94 bcf and even at that, concerns of supply tightness were not eased. Strong demand as this summer heats up and we're just slightly above the 5 year average in supply. The market is getting nervous and traders are bullish. Open your account with me! Late breaking...Iraq will be exporting next week and Norway workers are on strike. Terror fears are building again and it's the weekend. The bull is back for the time being!
