Comex-trading funds marginally increased their net short position into lastTuesday (so much for short covering ahead of the long weekend). Net short position increased to 4.65moz from 4.50 million ounces. Based on the change in open interest since last Tuesday, we would estimate that perhaps 3 lacs of these shorts were covered since then - plus what was done last night. Overall, l estimates are that the funds still are short between 3.5 and 4.0 million ounces - so there is more short covering to come if gold can (1) hold this level and then (2) move higher - probably to 272.
