VIEW: Acknowledges that concerns on the rise in house prices is valid, but feels that a destabilising decline in house prices is an unlikely scenario, and that the debt burden is sustainable as long as there are no shocks to income or house prices.

NOTES: Respected for keeping inflation subdued since joining the Fed as chairman in 1987. Sensitive to political implications of a rate move. Moderate who became increasingly convinced by 'new economy'.
