[img][/img]
How can you be simultaneously bullish Europe and bearish the U.S. medium-term?
Category: Global Markets
In your latest European Financial Forecast, you are making a bullish forecast for European stocks medium-term. Yet you are still bearish the U.S. indices. If the U.S. is now in wave 3 down, can Europe really rally?!
Responder: Tom Denham Date: 11/4/2004
(Tom Denham, editor of the European Financial Forecast) The critical factor which accounts for this is the difference in wave patterns between the US and Europe. They are not identical now and never have been. The DAX continued to rally two months AFTER the Dow topped in 2000. Then the DAX made a significant new low 5 months AFTER the Dow bottomed in 2002. US and European markets clearly diverge on occasion. On the other hand, I do not think that Europe will advance sharply while the US falls sharply over the next six months. Divergences are unlikely to be that big. There is a good chance that revisions to our outlooks will be required. Maybe the US outlook. Maybe the European outlook. Maybe both. Right now, I am pleased with how the intermediate bullish outlook is developing in Europe. If the wave patterns start to tell a different story in Europe, I will change my view.
