-->New home sales rose 2.1% to a 1.222 million annual rate in September, a bit lower than expected and accompanied by a net downward revision to August and July of 59,000. The Commerce Department said Katrina had"minimal" impact on the data, and that it made no adjustments.

The months' supply in the market held steady at 4.9, while the median price fell a sharp 5.7% to $215,700 -- with prices up only 1.9% year-on-year. The median price for an existing home, data reported Tuesday, showed a 3.6% dip to $212,000.
