December 30, 2005 -- Fed gone wild. For the week that ended Dec. 19, M-3, the broad money supply, jumped $35.7 billion. The week before M-3 had risen $27.3 billion, for a combined two week increase of $63 billion. At this rate, M-3 would rise by a mind-blowing $1.6 trillion over a 12 months period! The Fed has indeed gone WILD.

What's the thinking behind this virtual explosion in M-3? I believe it's to offset the underlying forces of deflation created by the enormous manufacturing capacity of China, India and other Asian nations. What we're seeing is an expanding ocean of fiat paper currencies, all generated by central banks who are forced (by political pressure) to keep their respective currencies low and competitive.

US November home resales are at their lowest levels in eight months, while home inventories are the highest since 1986. This suggests that we're seeing the beginning of the housing slowdown, and a possible pull-back in consumer spending. If US consumers cut back on their spending, the economy will have to depend more on business and less on consumers (consumer spending comprises 71% of the nations GDP).

Note -- yesterday for the first time this year, mining stocks headed the list of new highs. Yesterday, there were 20 mining stocks at new highs including GG, GLG, AU, NEM, AEM and GFI.
