In Asian trading overnight the gold price rebounded to $570 per ounce, up from yesterday's $559.40 low, in conjunction with the higher oil price and short covering. Yesterday and again this morning rumors continue to circulate regarding forced long liquidation of gold positions by several hedge funds that are faced with losses and quarter-end redemptions. In London this morning gold fixed at $568.25 and a relief rally is expected given the sharp price decline and oil price edging back towards $60 bbl. Our bullion desk is not sure the downside pressure is over, particularly if there continues to be forced fund liquidation, however we believe the June $545 to $550 per ounce floor will hold.
