-->Ex-FSB Officer Dies in London
Former Russian intelligence officer Alexander Litvinenko has died in hospital three weeks after he was apparently poisoned in London. Meanwhile, Andrey Lugovoy a man who met Litvinenko on November 1 in London has named the suspect of the murder in an interview with Kommersant.
Litvinenko died late Thursday night at University College Hospital in London. The cause of his condition is still being investigated. A hospital spokesperson declined to make further comments.
Alexander Litvinenko defected to the UK in 2000 and was granted political asylum and citizenship.
Initial reports said the Russian ex-spy had been poisoned with thallium. Investigators said later the man had been poisoned with some form of radioactive material. The hospital’s chief called reports of three objects found in the patient’s stomach “misleading”, saying these were almost certainly shadows caused by the medicine used to treat thallium poisoning.
