UK: Kreditkrise oder Liquiditätskrise?

die UK-Banken drängen nach dem Barclays-Debakel (s. unten) darauf, dass die BoE Drei-Monatsgeld zur Verfügung stellt. Auszug aus dem DT:

"Senior bankers believe the Bank of England should ease pressure on the money markets by injecting capital to cover three-month loans in order to prevent the turmoil sweeping financial institutions from spreading to the wider economy.

There is a concern among some of the City's most experienced financiers that the Bank of England's analysis of the market's difficulties is wide of the mark.

They believe that the Bank and the Financial Services Authority are looking at the situation as a credit crisis when they should really be considering it as a liquidity crisis.

"There is plenty of money out there which can go into equities or other assets in which there is a market. The problem is that the debt market has dried up - banks have stopped lending to each other," one banker said.

The Bank of England's handling of the situation in the next few weeks will be critical as to whether the problems in the money markets infect the rest of the economy, some believe.

There is a nervousness about how adept the Bank will be as it is facing its first serious liquidity crisis since the mid-1980s." (usw.)
