USA: Take this (DELLS) news with a grain of salt:
Dell Computer (DELL) was the driving force for the day, jumping 3 1/16
to 25 1/4 after telling investors it will reaffirm its first-quarter
outlook.
"We believe Dell's internal plan was substantially higher than the
plan they presented to the Street," CBS Marketwatch reported Merrill's
Steve Fortuna saying in a note to clients.
Npirnat, however reacted to the news much like someone who gets some
mail saying they"might already be a winner."
"Take this news with a grain of salt. For Dell to reaffirm anything
this far from their actual earnings date is misleading at best and
more likely another afterhours sleight of hand. Bill Gates himself has
said repeatedly that even on the date of his earnings he is clueless
as to what they will actually be. More importantly this news comes on
a day when Intel, Amat and many other semiconductor companies have
slipped below support levels. The smh collapse today confirmed a
renewed downward trend in the nasdaq confounding the experts once
again. Leadership they said will first be iniated in this group. As
usual they were wrong. In this technologic dustbowl even Michael Dell
is allowed an hallucination or two. What he said was another open
ended statement that allowed for its own failure hoping for a stock
reversal. There was no mention of a large stock buyback. In short he
was being a manager instead of a leader. A leader would have died to
tell the public such earthshaking, long awaited news face to face
during the regular trading day. Only a simpleton would fall for this
old trick."
