Hi!
~ Anzahl der neugeschaffenen Stellen: - 86.000, erwartet wurde ein Zuwachs von 50.000 Stellen

Summary
~ The labor market shed 86,000 jobs in March. The weakness was broad based. Manufacturers laid off 81,000 workers, while February’s losses were revised to a loss of 97,000 jobs. Retailers shed 46,000 and government employment dropped. Gains in other industries were modest.
~ The unemployment rate increased to 4.3% in March, its highest since July 1999.
~ Somewhat heartening is the fact that employment for both January and February was revised up. Therefore, average gains for the first quarter were 114,000 jobs, compared to 52,000 during the fourth quarter of 2000.
~ Average weekly hours rose slightly to 34.3 hours, while manufacturing hours remained steady at 40.7. A year ago, average weekly hours were 34.5, only slightly longer.
~ Average hourly earnings rose by 0.4%. The gains for the last 12 months is 4.3%, its highest since the second quarter of 1998. Wage pressures are still present. </ul>
