US-Wirtschaftsdaten: zunächst Erstanträge auf Arbeitslosenunterstützung....

Die Daten für heute wären da zum einen

~ die wöchentlichen Erstanträge auf Arbeitslosenunterstützung: belaufen sich auf 385.000, im Vergleich zur Vorwoche ein minimaler Rückgang von 10.000. Der 4-Wochendurchschnitt bewegt sich weiter dezent nach oben. Der 4-Wochen-Durchschnitt für die kontinuierlichen Ansprüche bewegt sich sogar auf dem höchsten Niveau seit 1996, das mit dem Beginn der Rezession 1990/91 vergleichbar ist. Ergo, keine Entwarnung am Arbeitsmarkt.

<ul> ~ Summary:
~ Both initial and continuing jobless claims moved downward this week, which is a bit of a surprise. The nearly daily list of corporate layoff announcements indicates that labor market conditions continue to worsen. And aside from these announcements, the decline in payroll employment in March also clearly indicated that prospects for job growth are weakening.
~ The overall tend is clearly upward, however. The four-week moving average of continuing claims is at its highest level since late 1996 and is about equal to its level at the outset of the 1990-1991 recession.
~ Continuing claims, however, remain below their mid-1990s level. Yet they also are at about the same level as in mid-1990.
~ By state, the largest rise in jobless claims during the week ending April 7 were Illinois, North Carolina, Alabama, Pennsylvania, Texas and Michigan. This demographic focus remains in the industrial Midwest and Southeast, where weak demand for consumer durables, autos and building materials is felt the most. Texas joins the list as its high-tech electronics industries begin to pare workers as well.
