US-Wirtschaftsdaten: Philadelphia Fed Survey

<ul> ~ Summary:
~ The Philadelphia Fed index recovered for the third month in a row, reaching - 7.5%. Nevertheless, this is still indicative of a contracting manufacturing industry in the Philadelphia Fed region.
~ Many of the production indices showed some improvement in April, shipments rose to 1.3% from 3.6% the month before. But with very few respondents indicating that their new orders are rising, indications are that manufacturing weakness will persist.
~ The prices paid rose to 7.0% in April while prices received fell to - 8.4%. Most respondents are indicating that their prices are stable, thus inflationary pressures remain subdued and the squeeze on profit margins remains an issue.
~ The number of employees index fell to -12.9% in April. This confirms weak job creation in the manufacturing industry in the Philadelphia Fed region as reported by the BLS. The average workweek index fell as well in April to -28.0%, suggesting that there will be little increase in employment any time soon.
~ Expectations about future activity rose for the third month in a row in April to 25.7% from 20.9% in March. The Fed rate cuts appear to be improving confidence in the manufacturing industry.
