So, zum Wochenabschluss noch der ECRI Weekly Leading Index für die Woche bis zum 18.5.2001, der heute bei 122,5 liegt und damit unter dem revidierten Wert von 123,2 der letzten Woche. Die geglättete Wachstumskurve der letzten 6 Monaten erfährt einen Anstieg von -2,4 auf nunmehr -1,8.

Zunächst die 6-Monats-Wachstumkurve


<ul> ~ die Zahlen:
~ Mortgage applications fell for the week, contributing to the index’s slide. Mortgage applications slid to 291,000 for the week, ending a three-week run up.
~ Initial unemployment insurance claims surged to over 400,000 for the week. UI claims were revised up the previous week, indicating that labor markets remain soft.
~ Prices for industrial materials continue their upward movement, reaching levels not seen since second quarter 2000.
~ All financial components increased, fueled by bullish conditions on Wall Street. The rise in these index components was not enough to offset deteriorating employment and mortgage conditions, however.
~ The index’s growth rate of -1.8% is the highest it has been since early February.
