Juniper warns on 2Q
Maker of Internet gear sees sales sharply below previous forecasts
June 8, 2001: 8:30 a.m. ET
NEW YORK (CNNfn) - Juniper Networks Inc. warned Friday that second-quarter results will be well below Wall Street forecasts, and the maker of Internet hardware and software said it would cut up to 9 percent of its work force.
Also nicht nur eine Gewinnwarnung sondern auch gleich die Ankündigung von Entlassungen bis zu 9% der Belegschaft.
Juniper said it expects to earn 8 or 9 cents a share for the quarter excluding one-time items, well below Wall Street forecasts of 24 cents a share.
Ups! Da liegt man aber doch deutlich neben den Prognosen.
The Sunnyvale, Calif.-based company also said sales will be about $205 million versus its previous forecast of about $315 million.
...ein gutes Drittel weniger Umsatz
Stock futures came off their highs after Juniper's warning, but the Nasdaq market was still poised to open higher, taking fair value into account. Futures jumped earlier after Intel issued a sales forecast that wasn't as pessimistic as many on Wall Street feared.
But Juniper, citing weakness in the market for high-technology equipment, also said it will cut about 9 percent of its work force and take a one-time charge of up to $45 million. Juniper had 927 employees at the end of last year, according to Multex, a provider of corporate data.
"Obviously we would prefer to be in markets that grow without hesitation or pause," Juniper Chairman Scott Kriens said in the company's announcement.
Juniper Networks' shares tumbled $6.13 to $40.50 in before-hours trading Friday.
