NEW YORK (CNNfn) - Wholesale prices plunged in the United States in July, the government said Friday, indicating inflation pressures are still low in the world's largest economy.
The Producer Price Index (PPI) fell 0.9 percent last month after June's 0.4 percent decline, the Labor Department reported. Wall Street economists surveyed by Briefing.com had forecast the PPI would fall 0.3 percent.
"Core" PPI, which excludes volatile food and energy prices, rose 0.2 percent after a 0.1-percent gain in June. Economists expected core PPI to rise 0.1 percent.
