In a record turnout in Bangkok, Samak Sundaravej - an allegedly corrupt, but experienced, politician - trounced the DP candidate Thavatchai Sajakul. The Bangkok election is a bellwether for upcoming parliamentary elections. Thailand’s current government has not succeeded in fixing the economy and the people are looking for an alternative - a challenge facing many Asian governments."
