WASHINGTON (Reuters) - New orders for goods produced at U.S. factories edged up in July, the government said on Friday in a report
suggesting the manufacturing sector, struggling to get out of a slump, might be showing some fledgling signs of improvement.

The Commerce Department said the value of new U.S. factory orders rose 0.1 percent in July to a seasonally adjusted $333.43 billion after a
revised 2.9 percent drop in June.

The rise, led by demand for electrical and transportation equipment, was better than expectations of a 0.5 decline forecast by economists in a
Reuters poll.

Orders for transportation equipment climbed 0.9 percent to a seasonally adjusted $52.73 billion. Within that category, orders for motor vehicles, parts and trailers were up 2.0 percent
while defense aircraft and parts rose 6.6 percent [NOTA BENE! Sollte hier jemand versuchen mittels government spending Zahlen zu verbessern?]. Electrical equipment orders rose 1.2 percent, led by demand for household appliances.

However, demand for computers and electronic products continued to flag, with that category posting a 4.5 percent decline.
