NEW YORK (CNNfn) - Wall Street delayed sBDtock trading Tuesday after two planes crashed into the World Trade Center, blocks from the New York Stock Exchange and the financial center of America.
The floor of the New York Mercantile Exchange floor was evacuated while the Nasdaq Stock Market and New York Stock Exchange delayed trading. The Nasdaq delayed its start until 11:30 a.m. ET, while the NYSE postponed its opening indefinitely.
"Nothing's going on here, there's not trading," said Patrick Boyle, head financial trader at Credit Suisse FirstDF Boston, whose offices are about tow miles."Everybody in this business has friends in that building."
Boyle said traders were watching television, which showed smoke billowing from the towers and a second plane crashing into the south tower.
Calls to the American Stock Exchange went unanswered during the crash, which President Bush, speaking in Sarasota, Fla., called an"apparent terrorism attack."
The NYSE said floor traders were being instructed to stay inside the building and not to evacuate.
