Return Of Israel
Many things were to occur before the Second Coming of Jesus. One is that of Israel becoming a nation again. In A.D. 70 the temple known as Herod’s Temple was totally destroyed and the Jews were dispersed as told it would by the prophets and Jesus. Matthew chapter 24: stated,
“Jesus left the temple and was walking away when his disciples came up to him to call his attention to its buildings. 2 “Do you see all these things?” he asked. “I tell you the truth, not one stone here will be left on another; every one will be thrown down.”” (NIV)
Josephus, a Jewish Historian, recorded this prophetic fulfillment, not to mention witnessed it. In his writings he tells how the Romans destroyed the Temple, every stone was destroyed so that all of the gold could be extracted from it. This would not only fulfill what Jesus stated but would send the nation of Israel eventually back into the hands of it surrounding neighbors.
In Ezekiel 37:11 it states,
“11 Then he said to me: “Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel. They say, ‘Our bones are dried up and our hope is gone; we are cut off.’ 12 Therefore prophesy and say to them: ‘This is what the Sovereign LORD says: O my people, I am going to open your graves and bring you up from them; I will bring you back to the land of Israel. 13 Then you, my people, will know that I am the LORD, when I open your graves and bring you up from them. 14 I will put my Spirit in you and you will live, and I will settle you in your own land. Then you will know that I the LORD have spoken, and I have done it, declares the LORD.’””
And in Ezekiel Chapter 36:33-36,
“33 ”‘This is what the Sovereign LORD says: On the day I cleanse you from all your sins, I will resettle your towns, and the ruins will be rebuilt. 34 The desolate land will be cultivated instead of lying desolate in the sight of all who pass through it. 35 They will say, “This land that was laid waste has become like the garden of Eden; the cities that were lying in ruins, desolate and destroyed, are now fortified and inhabited.” 36 Then the nations around you that remain will know that I the LORD have rebuilt what was destroyed and have replanted what was desolate. I the LORD have spoken, and I will do it.’”(NIV)
It would not be until after World War II that the nation of Israel would be reborn and recognized once again as a nation. This occurred in 1948. They would also go one to re-cultivate the land and create irrigation lines that would make the land bloom with vegetation. Thousands upon thousands of Jews have returned since 1948 and they continue to come back home to Israel. And as in the previous times before them when Israel came back, other nations provided the way and the finances. This is true today.
But there turmoil is not over yet for they are still being sought out to be destroyed by the Muslim nations. In August of this year a outbreak of violence between Israel and Palestine occurred ending a stretch of 7 years to obtain some sort of peace. Although both sides are appealing to the United Nations, United States, European Union, and other countries for resolve the violence continues to escalate. On November 12 the Palestinians stated that they were at war, not a conflict but a “Holy War” with Israel. Prime Minister Arafat has the support of many Arab nations to set up a Palestinian statehood with Jerusalem as its capital. This is what has held up the peace process for so many years. They will not get what they want, for the Bible states that Jerusalem belongs to Israel. In Zechariah 12:2 it states,
“2Behold, I will make Jerusalem a cup of trembling unto all the people round about, when they shall be in the siege both against Judah and against Jerusalem. 3And in that day will I make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all people: all that burden themselves with it shall be cut in pieces, though all the people of the earth be gathered together against it.” (NIV)
Today we see that it is the city of Jerusalem and its Temple Mount that has become the center of attention. It is the stumbling block of the Middle East peace process as has been stated by many on national television.
Revived Roman Empire: The EU
Another prophetic occurrence happened in 1948 as well that had to do with an establishment of a nation. Around this time an idea to unite all of Europe came into the minds of world leaders in which the CIA of the United States was big player. This prophetic fulfillment was none other than that of the “Revived Roman Empire” that is called the “European Union” that has become a growing entity of the world. They have brought nearly all the nations that once comprised the old Roman Empire into its wings. They plan to have others in by 2002 - 2003. Although the EU single currency is struggling it is maintaining. All the factors are their for them to survive and become even stronger. But how does this fulfill prophecy?
In the book of Daniel Chapters 2, 8, 7, 9 we find where he is given different visions concerning the different world empires that are to rise and fall. Especially, that of the revived Roman Empire. From this nation will come a leader who will come to power not as a mighty conqueror but as a peace maker. This is the abomination that will cause desolation as mentioned earlier by Jesus in Matthew Chapter 24. In Daniel Chapter 9:25-27 it gives this about the Anti-Christ,
“25 “Know and understand this: From the issuing of the decree to restore and rebuild Jerusalem until the Anointed One, the ruler, comes, there will be seven ‘sevens,’ and sixty-two ‘sevens.’ It will be rebuilt with streets and a trench, but in times of trouble. 26 After the sixty-two ‘sevens,’ the Anointed One will be cut off and will have nothing. The people of the ruler who will come will destroy the city and the sanctuary. The end will come like a flood: War will continue until the end, and desolations have been decreed. 27 He will confirm a covenant with many for one ‘seven.’ In the middle of the ‘seven’ he will put an end to sacrifice and offering. And on a wing of the temple he will set up an abomination that causes desolation, until the end that is decreed is poured out on him.” (NIV)
This person will have all the right structure and platforms to come into power and make a false peace in Israel with its neighboring enemies, mainly the Arab nations. Notice what it states in verse 27 above, the Anti-Christ will desolate the temple and cause an end to the sacrificing and offerings. The ‘seven’ represents 7 years and in the middle of the 7 years, 3 and half years, is when it happens. So for this all to occur there must be a temple for it to become desolate.
Third Temple
There is some controversy surrounding when the Third Temple will be built in Jerusalem; however, from Daniel we saw that the Anti-Christ will make is desolate. How will he do this? Speculation is that he will place himself in the Holy of Holies, where the Ark rest, and claim himself to be the messiah that everyone has been waiting to come. So the temple has to be rebuilt or in the process of being built. With today’s technology and machinery it could be built to Ezekiel’s vision, beginning in Ezekiel Chapter 40, dimensions within a matter of months.
Today there are many in Israel that are pressing their government to let them build the Third Temple. Two such organizations that exist are the Temple Mount Faithful Group, and the Temple Institute. Both are dedicated in seeing that the Third Temple is built to the exact measurements that were given to Ezekiel and that all the traditional sacrifices, temple instruments, priest garments, and sacrificial Red Heifer are within specifications as well. The Temple Mount Faithful organization has tried on several occasions, the last time in October 2000, to take the corner stone and have it placed on the Temple Mount. But of course each time they are denied, most recently due to the tensions and violence in Israel. But a time is approaching when they will set that corner stone and build the Third Temple. There was a group of engineers that conducted research and built a model and draft of the Temple. One of the researchers is the founder of the House of Yahweh in Austin Texas. The other group is called the Temple Mount. From their research they were able to conclude that the Third Temple can be placed right next to the mosque that is currently setting upon the Temple Mount. The diagram is found here Diagram of Temple. But for any of this to take place there will have to be a peace treaty in place to allow this to happen, which will be for 7 years. Made and facilitated by none other than the Anti-Christ himself.
The Rapture
Another controversial topics among theologians is that of the rapture. There are several different opinions concerning the rapture mainly when it will occur. Now there are those that do not think that it will even happen. But for the purposes of this article we will be talking about the pre-tribulation stance. That is that the rapture will take place before the Tribulation period.
Rapture is taken from the Latin and means to be caught up. In 1 Thessalonians Chapter 4:14-17 we find,
“14 We believe that Jesus died and rose again and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him. 15 According to the Lord’s own word, we tell you that we who are still alive, who are left till the coming of the Lord, will certainly not precede those who have fallen asleep. 16 For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever.” (NIV)
After the dead are physically raised up and their bodies transformed and joined with their soul, then those that are alive will be caught up or raptured to heaven to be with the Lord. But how do pre-tribulationist come to the conclusion that we are raptured before the Tribulation? In Matthew Chapter 24:22, 31, and 40-41 Jesus states, “22 If those days had not been cut short, no one would survive, but for the sake of the elect those days will be shortened… 31 And he will send his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other… 40 Two men will be in the field; one will be taken and the other left. 41 Two women will be grinding with a hand mill; one will be taken and the other left.” This gives us an indication that those that believe in Christ will be raptured before things get really bad or at the start of the Tribulation.
Those that are not ready will be left behind to face the worse 7 years period of their lifetime. It will be a time of terrible destruction and devastation for all who are left. Jesus told the disciples this in Matthew Chapter 24:36-39, and 42,
“36 “No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. 37 As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. 38 For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark; 39 and they knew nothing about what would happen until the flood came and took them all away. That is how it will be at the coming of the Son of Man… 42 “Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come. ”
So be ready for He will come like a thief in the night when we least expect it. (1 Thessalonians 5:2)
Anti-Christ/Tribulation
After the rapture of those that are saved then the worst time on earth will occur, the Tribulation period. This period as stated many time will be for 7 years. During the first half of this period a person will come to power bring a false peace to Israel. This man will be the Anti-Christ. He will set up a peace deal for 7 years with them and all will seem great. He will even do miracles to further deceive the nations. (Revelation 13:13) The most recognized sign attributed to the Anti-Christ is the number of the beast, “666” from the book of Revelation Chapter 13:16-18,
“16 He also forced everyone, small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on his right hand or on his forehead, 17 so that no one could buy or sell unless he had the mark, which is the name of the beast or the number of his name. 18 This calls for wisdom. If anyone has insight, let him calculate the number of the beast, for it is man’s number. His number is 666.”
This man is going to come from the Revived Roman Empire as told in Daniel. Again, this person will come in and deceive the nations on a peace platform. He will be given the power to control the world. But make no mistake about it, this man will be possessed by Satan and he will cause chaos and destruction at the end of the 3 and a half years. This is when all literal hell on earth occurs. Many will perish for not accepting his mark, but they are really the lucky ones. For those that accept the mark of the beast are doomed for eternal damnation in the pits of hell or lake of fire. (Revelation 14:6-11) How will the Anti-Christ accomplish this feat of using a mark?
Many have been speculating for many years just how could a person be made to use a mark to by and sell. That is until the computer age. There is now a way to do this through micro-chip technology. In March of 1999 a patent was approved for such bio-chip implants that would be used for the purpose of tracking, medical, and financial purposes. In October 2000 the Digital Angel was given its debut to a select few. This chip can be placed just under the skin of a person and through use of satellite and wireless computer technology the chip can be used. Its purposes is unlimited. Evangelist such as Dr. Jack Van Impe, Dr. Tim Lahaye, Hal Lindsey, and many others have for years been preaching that this kind of technology would happen and be used for a purpose as described in Revelation. So it is not something that myself or others have all of a sudden pulled out of our hats and made it fit for our purposes. The Bible prophecies, some 300 give or take a few, have all come about, and we are seeing many come to past today. This Anti-Christ is coming and the Tribulation period is going to occur and when it does there are going to be more suffering and agony ever imagined on the Earth.
Revelation gives us verse after verse as to what kind of pain and suffering is going to happen during the Tribulation Period. There will be famines, pestilence, fires, earthquakes, contamination of food and water supplies from possibly radiation. Look at Chernobyl, there is still problems from that accident and with all the nuclear waste, bombs, and plants it is not only possible but very probable. This time will be filled with such horrific events that I really do not think we can grasp the gravity of it.
HOPE THROUGH JESUS CHRIST
Through this entire series on the End Times you have been reading gloom and doom. Although, that is what we are faced with, there is a light at the end of the tunnel. And this is the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He came into the world to die for the sins of the world so we could have that hope of salvation. All who call upon His name and ask will be saved. It is as simple as that. He wants you to come to Him. God does not wish for anyone to perish in the lake of fire that is reserved for Satan and the fallen angels. He loved you enough that He sent us His only Son, Jesus as the last sacrificial Lamb. John 3:16-18 states it best,
“16 “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.”
This is our HOPE from all of the literal hell that will be on Earth during the Tribulation and after we face the Judgment Throne of God. He is waiting for you don’t put Him off call on Him today.
