...Eine schöne Story - und gleichzeitig wahr:)
Cyclone uncovers gold By John Beveridge August 27, 2003
IF every cloud has a silver lining, hurricanes must be sheathed in gold. That's what explorer Chameleon Mining reckons, anyway, after a cyclone exposed a potential new gold resource in Fiji.
Yesterday investors thought so, too, sending the stock soaring 5¢ or 45 per cent to close at 16¢.
Managing director Greg Barnes said Chameleon would start sampling the potential gold deposit on the Fijian island of Ovalau, 60km northeast of Suva.
He said a recent cyclone caused a landslide on Ovalau, which exposed a mineralised quartz stockwork zone.
"The terrain on Ovalau is dense jungle, so this act of God has been very fortunate for us in that it has exposed an area of about 100m at the centre of a caldera," he said.
Previous large mining houses had looked at Ovalau but because of the dense terrain they had not been able to find areas to establish drilling targets. Mr Barnes said the geology of the island was similar to the PNG island of Lihir, which now supported a large gold mine.
Sampling results from Ovalau would be reported in September Chameleon has 11 exploration areas, including six in Fiji and five in the Kimberley region of Western Australia.
