In den nächsten Wochen sei es laut McCanney sehr gut möglich, dass die Kometen 2001/Q4 und C/2002/T7 ebenfalls solche Spikes ausbilden, wenn und weil sie relativ nahe an Merkur bzw. Venus derart vorbeifliegen, dass sich eine Linie Sonne-Planet-Komet bilde:
