S&P cuts GM's debt ratings to one step above junk

-->Standard & Poor's on Thursday downgraded the debt ratings for General Motors and its finance unit to one step above junk status, citing increased concerns about the profitability of the company's automotive operations...

GM's third-quarter earnings included a loss of $130 million from the company's automotive operations, but $656 million of gains from the company's finance arm, General Motors Acceptance Corp...

The downgrade, which left GM's long-term ratings equal to Ford Motor Co...GM's consolidated debt as of Sept. 30 was $284 billion, S&P said....
Fitch on Wednesday cut GM's debt rating to"BBB," or two steps above junk, from"BBB-plus."

Also wie gehabt: Die Schulden wachsen immer weiter, das operative Ergebnis bleibt rotgetüncht und nur die Finanztochter schreibt einen vergleichsweise kleinen Gewinn...und dies bei 284 Mrd. USD Schulden- und bei Ford liegen diese in etwa gleichauf! Bei Opel Deutschland dürfte damit der Leidensdruck mittelfristig gesehen auch nicht besser werden.

	-->wenn man dem amerikanischen Vielfrass-Konsumenten immer die neuesten Modelle finanziert, zu Null Zinsen, ohne Anzahlung und selbstredend für eine längere Frist als den Zeitraum, in dem die Mühle aus Altersschwäche Schrottwert erreicht, dann hat das irgendwann mal Konsequenzen...

	-->Ein Link wäre praktisch, vielen Dank. 284 Mrd. Dollar entsprechen heute 227 Mrd. Euro, das wären rund 17,5% der Staatsverschuldung BRD. Ne Menge Holz:-(

Hallo Eric,

sorry, das war etwas schludrig von meiner Seite, ich hatte die selbe Meldung nämlich auch noch woanders gefunden und da stand was von den 284 Mrd USD

"Even with robust industry sales in North America and an improving cost position, GM has been unable to achieve satisfactory profitability in North America in recent years," said S&P analyst Scott Sprinzen.
GM's consolidated debt as of Sept. 30 was $284 billion, S&P said.

Demgegenüber stehen allerdings noch geringe Guthaben:

GM said its cash, marketable securities and short-term assets totaled $24.5 billion on Sept. 30, down from $25 billion June 30. It said cash flow typically is lower in the third quarter because of reduced production and costs related to launching new models.
